LOST BOYS The REmix project is a concept created by BD Barcelona with the aim of REcovering, REcycling and REusing the obsolete material that accumulates in warehouses to give it a second chance. Belén Moneo faced this challenge in the new edition (vol.5), converting and old stock legs into a limited edition of bookshelves and colorful collection of bookends that will part of the BD Art Edition’s catalogue. The legs are from the Romana table that his father, architect Rafael Moneo, has designed for the Catalan furniture in 2001.&nbsp; Studying the leg, Belén recognized the abstract, and perhaps hidden, beauty of it geometry, and she wanted to reveal it. To do this, as an architect, I resorted to descriptive geometry which - together with its intrinsic tools, the section cut of the figure and its projection -, has been the resource used in this transformation of the object. The transparency of the Plexyglas shelves (our signature material) let us see a forest of wooden columns. The rotundity and solidity of this element is thus magnified, revealing all its powersses qualities. At the same time, the suspension and rotation of the columns, which appear to float, defying gravity, playing with the viewer’s perception and lightening the piece. Soulbox need not be filled. It can be empty and still fill the room with the color of its materials, reflections and the light it shines. Soulbox is the treasure chest where we save relics, objects for a collection or with a specific emotional value; a place to display intimate pieces. It can also be the vitrine where objects of daily use can be organized: the wine glasses and bottles in the dining room, a selection of books in the office, or cosmetic products in a bathroom. Soulbox has a simple and functional design. The visual effect of the acrylic glass plates of different colors is highlighted by the installation of LED strips in its back, and by the use of iridescent vinyl. The colors and their juxtaposition will change depending on the spatial position of the viewer. Simulating a curtain, it creates a stage that frames the daily episodes of the family life, a stage set for children’s fantasies. The Plexijazz screen has a direct, colorful and simple design, with a pure and defined geometry. &nbsp; The piece was conceived spontaneously for our own house, without much development and process, and the result following closely the original idea. This uncommon characteristic —the ease with which the piece was conceived and built— makes it a design that we hold dear. We designed it for our loft in NY, as a dividing partition that could hide our messy worktable as well as provide storage. The transparent colors of the material mix in unexpected ways, and we enjoyed the way the piece camouflaged the disorder of our work area. 20mm thick shelves of transparent polycarbonate rest on modules of vibrantly colored folded sheets of the same material . These modules form cavities for storage on both sides, with the colored sheets weaving from front to back and enveloping the materials stored or displayed. No tools are required in its assembly. The positioning of the modules can vary, producing countless color combinations. Finally, the modules are designed to nest one inside another when disassembled for easy transportation and storage. Chromoduwall is a simplified version for use against a wall. It can be custom ordered for any length and height.
